About the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT):
Emergencies or disasters can quickly overwhelm a community’s immediate response capability. While adjacent jurisdictions, State and Federal resources can activate to help, there may be short or long-term delays. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training gives citizens the decision-making, organizational, and practical skills to provide immediate assistance to victims in their area, organize spontaneous volunteers who have not had the training, and collect disaster intelligence that will assist professional responders with prioritization and allocation of resources. In essence, CERTs are auxiliary first responders and a critical asset to the community. During non-emergency, CERT members take an active role in safety, emergency and disaster preparedness initiatives/projects in their community.
